Web Design 101
July 19, 2017
User experience (UX) describes your website from a potential client’s point of view. It also affects your website’s search ranking, because search engines like Google have a vested interest in users’ satisfaction with search results. Here are some of the UX priorities our web dev team at Fasturtle takes into account:
Website Loading Time
Optimizing your website’s loading times may seem trivial, but every split second counts. You typically have three seconds or less to grab your visitor’s attention, or they will simply go elsewhere.
Above-the-Fold Navigation
When a page first loads, its navigation needs to be visible immediately. Ideally, it will be at the top because research shows that’s where web users look first. No one wants to scroll and click around looking for answers to a simple question about your business. For that reason, menus should be highly visible and simple to navigate.
Trust-Creating Images
If you use stock photos, make sure they’re high-res and relatable. Don’t go with generic smiling people. Instead, choose images that relate to your products and services. Better yet, invest in high-quality custom photos that clearly show your operations and create a trustworthy, memorable impression.
Authoritative Content
When a potential customer comes to your website, they’re looking for answers. Review every part of your website copy to ensure that by the time they leave, they have confidence in your industry expertise. Link to credible, current sources of information to support your statements to protect yourself from being filtered out of top search results.
Prominent Call to Action
Once you have a user’s attention and trust, you want to make it incredibly easy and convenient to take action. Make it clear and specific because engagement is key, whether that means signing up for mailings, calling your sales department, leaving a review or purchasing a product.
