Cyber Monday Online Spending 2017
Black Friday and its online counterpart, Cyber Monday, raked in record-breaking revenues. Cyber Monday alone netted $6.59 billion, a 17% increase from last year and the biggest online shopping day in Internet history. Mobile sales reached $2 billion during the 24-hour period, breaking another record and proving that mobile-first design is a must if you want to reach this growing market. These numbers come from Adobe Insights, which tracked 80% of online transactions for 100 major retailers. According to the researchers, smartphones have become the “de facto device” for online shopping.
Giving Tuesday and End-Of-Year Giving Tips
Year-end fundraising puts nonprofit organizations on overdrive in the months leading up to the holidays. Mailings go out, enewsletters fill inboxes, galas come together, charitable tax credits are touted, lessons are learned, and how well you attract the spirit of giving pretty much determines your operations for the next year. No pressure, right?
Giving Tuesday campaigns use social media and online content to drive donations after Thanksgiving. If you haven’t taken advantage of the trend yet, put it on your calendar for next year. Logos and ideas are available at givingtuesday.org.
One of the most interesting statistics about year-end giving is that 2/3 of donors do no research before donating to a nonprofit. They rely on brand reputation and word of mouth. That means you really need to get the word out to the minority of donors who do research before giving, and produce great shareable content that they can use to create that word-of-mouth advertising.
